Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi (FIM) showcased a transformative leap in yacht design with the debut of its Contessa Series at Boot Düsseldorf 2025. The Italian shipyard, founded in 2019 by Corrado Piccinelli, Manuela Barcella, and Vannis Marchi, introduced the 560 Contessa and flagship 640 Contessa Sport Fly, signaling its expansion into the larger yacht segment.
A Strategic Evolution
As an emerging player in the nautical industry, FIM’s transition from its celebrated Regina open walkaround yachts to the sport fly segment marks a pivotal moment. “Carving out a space in the competitive nautical market requires a focus on specific niches and a commitment to excellence,” explained CEO Corrado Piccinelli. The Contessa Series embodies this strategy, merging aesthetics, performance, and innovation.
Designed in collaboration with DesignaLOT Studio and BMW Group’s Designworks, the Contessa models target discerning owners who demand both luxury and agility. Manuela Barcella, co-founder, highlighted the brand’s goal to create yachts that are functional yet representative of their core values, appealing to markets from the Mediterranean to Northern Europe.
The 640 Contessa: A Flagship of Innovation
At the forefront of the Contessa Series, the 640 Contessa combines Italian craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Its streamlined exterior features deep hull moldings and sculpted contours, while the integrated flybridge maximizes usability with spaces for sunbathing, dining, and lounging. A hallmark of the design is its lamella roof, allowing natural light to flood the salon and creating an open-air feel.
The interior boasts three cabins with en-suite bathrooms, including a spacious master suite. A sliding door in the third cabin offers flexible configurations, seamlessly connecting it to the lobby. The salon, enhanced by a fully opening aft door, creates a cohesive flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering an inviting atmosphere for relaxation or entertaining. Practical features, such as a bow-positioned crew cabin for privacy and an aft tender garage for optimized operations, further elevate the onboard experience.
Collaboration with BMW Group’s Designworks introduced innovative materials and a customisable lighting system that tailors onboard ambiance to personal preferences. Tom Allemeier, Creative Design Director at Designworks, described the 640 Contessa as a “yacht for all the senses,” combining elegance, functionality, and modernity.
Looking Ahead
The 640 Contessa, set for launch in autumn 2026, redefines luxury and sportiness in the flybridge segment. With its groundbreaking design, FIM strengthens its position as a visionary in the yachting industry. Soproyachts is honored to collaborate with FIM, delivering yachts that blend performance, comfort, and unmistakable style to Portugal’s nautical community.
