Description
The STANDFAST 49 “ULYSSE” ketch has been built for her first Belgian owner in 1965 at Frans Maas yard (later Standfast yachts) in Breskens, Holland, famous at that time for highest Dutch quality craftsmanship and builder for Ted Hood and Dick Carter. Ulysse is a design from renown US naval architect John Alden.
Over the years Ulysse has always been maintained, renovated, modernised on systems and this regardless of cost. The second also Belgian owner bought Ulysse in 2012 and kept the same high standards to keep her in as new condition. The hull of Ulysse is fibreglass.
Ulysse is not only a very seaworthy boat, performing greatly in heavy weather conditions and enjoying the protection of doghouse steering but is also a great live aboard boat. Separate aft owner cabin, U shaped saloon, large chart table and galley with an all over presence of wood give her a real nautical feeling.
The actual owner equipped her not only with a new Volvo D3 150 HP engine (2018). All the navigation equipment has been modified to full Raymarine (plotters, repeaters, radar, VHF, AIS) with touchscreen plotters (E135 at chart table, E165 at helm station) and various repeaters. Also were installed a hydraulic Maxprop bow- and electric stern thruster, Reckman hydraulic furler. 2 Lewmar electric winches for the genoa sheets as well 2 to hoist the main and mizzen sails offer push button comfort. The full set of North Sails are in good condition for many more years of sailing. Mainsail, mizzen sail and cutter are new (2022). Aluminium masts and rigging are Proctor.
If the first owner kept her full time skipper maintained, she was hardly used and most of the time winter and even during some years dry stored. The second owner used her cruising potential and sailed her mostly in duo. Ulysse was mainly cruising the last years between the Algarve, Madeira and the Balearic Islands. Her cruising qualities are supported by large autonomy, principally due to the large fuel and water tanks but also by the Fischer Panda generator.
Ulysse is for sale in as new condition. The boat is actually on the hard at Sopromar yard in Lagos – Algarve for antifouling, hull waxing, varnishing and servicing of all systems, engine and generator.
